  • Design Engineer

    Helix Earth Technologies Inc. is seeking a R&D Mechanical Engineer, who will report directly to the CEO. The position will be onsite and located at our Houston, TX offices.

    About You:

    • You are a mechanical design that is passionate about working on developing cutting-edge technologies that make a meaningful impact on our planet.

    • You have a bias for action and enjoy meaningful collaborations optimizing designs and also delivering on the design and iterating quick.

    • You enjoy large, cross-disciplinary challenges and are excited to learn about thermal engineering, materials science & electronics.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Product development from initial concept to design fruition and testing of prototype systems. Responsibilities include system level design, component design, and system fabrication.

    • Utilize rapid prototyping & additive manufacturing to build products and prototypes.

    • Conduct research and analysis to identify new materials, components, and processes that can enhance the performance and cost-effectiveness of systems.

    • Develop and execute test plans and experiments to validate prototypes and verify compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineers, thermal engineers, materials scientists, chemical engineers, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure seamless integration of system components into the final products.

    • Engage with external collaborators such as researchers, suppliers, and manufacturers as needed.

    • Participate in consumer research and product ideation as needed.

    • Participate in design review meetings.

    Qualifications:

    • B.S, M.S, or PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.

    • Industry experience is preferred.

    • Deep understanding of the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.

    • Experience with CAD Software (SolidWorks preferred).

    • Experience with additive manufacturing, especially FDM.

    • Hands-on experience building products in a lab, previous startup or design team.

    • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

    • Maintenance of a persistent attention to detail.

    Helpful background:

    • Familiarity with materials science and selection, especially in corrosive and reactive materials.

    • Experience in P&ID for refrigeration/compression cycles

    • Experience with sensors, Raspberry Pi, Arduino and DAQs

    • Experience in generative design methods and software (e.g., nTopology and Rhino).
