Helix Earth
About Us

Technology Designed for Space.
Destined for Earth.

The technology behind Helix MICRA™ was developed at NASA to handle extreme conditions in space. We brought it to Earth to fix the way buildings manage air.

  • Building humidity control
  • Better indoor air quality
  • Reduced HVAC energy use
Our Story

Our NASA Origins

Dr. Rawand Rasheed, our CEO and co-founder, developed the first version of Helix MICRA™ at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The mission was to protect astronauts from fire and smoke aboard the Orion spacecraft on missions to Mars.

The challenge was removing toxic particles from cabin air in microgravity, where traditional filtration fails completely. The solution had to be compact, never clog, use minimal energy, and capture contaminants instantly.

That solution became Helix MICRA™. The Multiplexed Inertial Coalescence Refining Apparatus.

Now, with an exclusive worldwide license from NASA, we are applying that same technology to the buildings where people live, learn, work, and eat every day.

Our Mission

Cut global HVAC energy use in half. It’s that simple. And that hard.

Our phased deployment strategy prioritizes markets where the Helix MICRA™ System delivers the greatest immediate impact in energy savings and occupant comfort.

Dr. Rawand Rasheed

Co-Founder & CEO

PhD, Mechanical Engineering - Rice University

NASA Johnson Space Center alum; invented Helix MICRA™ for Orion. Founded Helix Earth to commercialize that filtration for buildings.

Rawand spent over five years at NASA’s Johnson Space Center on thermal-fluid systems for spacecraft water recovery, carbon dioxide scrubbers, astronaut respirator filters, and other microgravity life support. He invented the patented Helix MICRA™ filtration system for Orion, designed to filter toxic air from fire byproducts on deep-space missions to Mars.

He founded Helix Earth to bring that technology to commercial buildings, cutting HVAC energy use while improving indoor health. The company has raised $19.3MM in venture funding and $2.3MM in non-dilutive support from agencies including NSF and DOE.

Rawand holds multiple patents and publications, including a top 5% journal by impact factor for Helix MICRA™. He has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in Energy & Green Tech, ACHR 40 Under 40, and the ASME Mechanical Engineering Magazine Watch List in 2025, and received Rice’s Herschel M. Rich Invention Award for Helix MICRA™.
